Difference Between Measurement of Pants and Kilts

PLEASE DON'T JUST ORDER YOUR PANTS/JEAN SIZE!!!

Order your jean size, the kilt will almost certainly be far too small for you. We don't want you to be disappointed and have to wait for an exchange, and measuring is easy-peasy. Just measure your waist where you intend to wear the kilt...this should be around your navel, about an inch or two above your hip bone. Order the nearest whole size to your actual measurement. Odds are it will be about 2-4" above your normal pants size: i.e. if you wear a 36 in your jeans, you will take a 38 or 40 in your kilt. But this is why measuring is so important...some guys maybe 6" difference from jean size to kilt size.

ALL of these measurements are better taken by someone else with a soft, fabric tape measure than by yourself in the garage with your metal tape measure:). If in doubt, you can stop in any formal wear store, suit store, etc., and get measured by a professional in just a couple of minutes

Please note:

The difference between the inside and outside leg measurement will determine the height of the waistline of your trousers.

If you are wearing the trousers with a short jacket such as a Prince Charlie, you may want to make your outside leg measurement a little longer to accommodate them being worn higher up on your waist

TROUSERS

(Measurement in inches)

In stock, trousers come in standard lengths and require two measurements: waist (high or regular waist is determined by the style of the trouser) and inside leg. Made to measure tartan trousers require four measurements: waist, seat/hip, inside leg and outside leg.

Waist: For HIGH WAIST trousers measure around your waist at the height of your belly button. For REGULAR WAIST trousers, measure around your waist at the top of your hip.

Seat/Hip: Put your feet together and measure around the broadest part of the hips and bum.

Inside leg: Standing up straight, your feet shoulder width apart, measure from the groin to the ankle on the inner side of the leg.

Outside leg: Standing up straight, your feet shoulder width apart, measure from the waist to the ankle on the outer side of the legs.

Basic Steps For Measuring Kilts

We will require the following measurements from you in centimetres or inches. Please do not measure yourself, ask a friend to help as it makes it so much easier and they can double check you are measuring in the right place

WAIST (A)

From this starting point measure around the stomach, this is the waist measurement. Note, this waist measurement is not the same as a trouser waist measurement, as the kilt is worn higher the waist measurement is usually greater than the trouser measurement.

HIP / SEAT (B)

Run the tape measure firmly, but not tightly around the widest part of your hips or seat.

LENGTH MEASUREMENT (C)

To measure the length for your kilt please kneel on the ground, place the tape on the floor then measure up to the navel/belly button. Traditionally the kilt should hang to the middle of your kneecap, unless you prefer to wear it shorter or longer then, of course, we can make to your personal preference.

Note: If your hip measurement is larger than your waist measurement then use your hip measurement.

Expected Kilt Length

Normally, your kilt length will correspond with the following guides. If it's significantly different, try taking the measurements again. notes below for more info.

Height 5' 6" to 5' 7" = 22" to 22.5" kilt length
Height 5' 8 to 5' 9" = 23" to 23.5" kilt length

Height 5' 10" to 5' 11"    =    24" to 24.5" kilt length
Height 6' to 6' 2"    =    24.5" to 25.5" kilt length
Height 6' 3" to 6" 4"    =    26" to 26.5" kilt length
Height 6' 5" to 6' 7"    =    27" to 27.5" kilt length
